Loads a saved backup (.mente or .json) that contains multiple notes at once. If the backup is encrypted, you'll be asked for its password. If your workspace is empty the notes load straight in; otherwise you'll choose whether to replace everything or merge.
Saves all of your notes into one backup file (.mente) so you can keep a copy or move them to another device. On the Encrypted tab you can password-protect the file; on the Unencrypted tab it saves as plain text.
Each item's card can show or hide details — unchecking fields makes the cards smaller. "Show body text" keeps the full body permanently visible (exactly like pressing View), removes the View/Close button, and moves Edit to the right. Note Ordering (above) only controls how items are SORTED: on Rating you can drag cards (or tap the ▲▼ arrows on a phone) to reorder, which adjusts each item's rating score to keep the order. On Created or Modified, items auto-sort by date, so drag and arrows are hidden.
Files attached to a note can be stored in one of two places. "Files on server" (the default and recommended choice) keeps each attachment as a normal file on the disk — this keeps the notes database small and fast, and makes your files easy to browse and back up on their own. "Inside the database" stores them inside the app's database instead — a single file to back up, but the files can't be browsed on their own and the database grows large. Photos, videos, audio, and PDFs show a preview right inside the note; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files are converted so you can preview them too. Each file can be up to 50 MB. This applies to Unencrypted items only — Encrypted items always keep their attachments inside the database (encrypted, so the server can't read them).
Your preferred language — the one you want to read things in. When translation is turned on, any note written in a different language is translated into this one. English and Spanish are built in; more languages can be added later without changing your notes.
How translation behaves. "Off" = no translation at all; the app works exactly like before and uses no extra memory. "Automatic" = whenever you open a note that isn't in your language, it's translated for you right away, and the translation is saved so it's instant next time. "On-demand" = nothing is translated until you choose — each note has a Translate button for the whole note or for text you select. Translation happens entirely on your device, offline — your words never leave the app.
How a translation is shown (only in Automatic mode). "Toggle" = you see your original note, with a button to flip between original and translated. "Replace" = the translation is shown instead of the original (a "Show original" button reveals the original wording). "Stacked" = both are shown at once, original on top and the translation underneath.
Dates and times can be shown in several formats on your notes. This applies to "Create Note - With Date/Time" items: the date and time you pick appears in this format everywhere — in the editor and when you view the note. A new date note starts on January 1 of the current year at 12:00 AM, ready for you to change.
The AI Guide is the built-in assistant that sits at the bottom of the app, ready to answer questions about how the app works and to help you work with your notes. This switch controls whether it appears for you at all. When it is on, the guide shows up after you sign in; when it is off, it disappears completely from your screen. Your account, notes, and anything the guide has remembered are not changed or deleted, so it can be switched back on here whenever it's wanted again.
The AI Guide can remember a few things about you between visits so you don't have to repeat yourself. When "remember me" is on, it keeps a short card of durable facts (your name, role, project, and settled decisions), never your full conversation. When it's switched off, everything it remembered is cleared right away.
This is the shared work queue between you and Hermes. You add the tasks, Hermes works through them and comments along the way, and you sign off to close each one out. Items can be added, opened to read the details and comment, and moved from open to review to done. It keeps every piece of work tracked so nothing slips through — and it's available here, any time.
This is where contributors hand in apps and suggestions for review. Contributors submit an idea or app, and you (with Hermes) review it, approve it, or route it through phases. A submission can be opened to comment, its status moved from pending to tentative to approved (or rejected), and a phase set to hand it to the next person. It lets many people work on one thing in stages without having to meet — here, any time.
The Control Room steers every face from Basa. A face is chosen in the top tabs and a role in the tabs below. Each checkbox turns a button or page on or off for that role only. Basa's roles are its ranks (Supreme Allied Commander down to Private); the top rank sees everything and decides what each rank below gets. The Control Room buttons at the bottom can only be turned on by the top rank. Below the list, Names & Colors edits the shared names, labels, and colors every face reads: the three party colors, the selected face's name, emoji, tagline, accent, and tab color, and the selected role's color. Names and row order are locked by default: Lock Names can be turned off to rename pages, sections, roles, or the face, and Lock Row Order can be turned off to move rows. Colors stay isoluminant at L* 55; the badge next to each color shows its live L*. Changes apply the next time that face loads.
Turning off any lock in the Control Room quietly saves a snapshot of the Access Matrix, the menus, the row order, and the names at that moment. Every change made after that point is temporary: the Undo button restores all of it back to how it was when the lock was turned off. Names, order, and switches return to their earlier state, while anything changed before unlocking stays in place. There is nothing to undo until one of the locks has been turned off.

The method for writing that card is chosen here. Automatic distills and saves after every chat while "remember me" is on, so the card stays current without anyone having to think about it. Manual only saves when the user taps the save button in the panel, which is more private but easier to forget. Either way, switching "remember me" off wipes the card instantly.
Every Basa contributor holds a rank, Supreme Allied Commander down to Private. The top rank sets each rank here; a lower rank only sees what that rank was granted in the Access Matrix. New contributors start at Private.

Every rank change made after that point is temporary: the Undo button restores each person back to the rank they held when the lock was turned off. Ranks changed before unlocking stay in place. There is nothing to undo until the Ranks lock has been turned off.
